Building a robust design system for billions of users.
Reliance Jio
Jio set out to revolutionise from a telecommunications company, to a fully connected service that touches every aspect of our daily lives. Leading the way as a category-of-one, Jio has accelerated and reimagined digital experiences in India across a multitude of sectors.
Spanning across multiple sectors and ranging from retail and entertainment to communication and food delivery, Jio is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world and it required an infinitely scalable and robust design systems to create products and services. Our team has started the work from the ground up and started by covering all the fundamentals and logics first.
AKQA has created a state-of-the-art automated token-based design system that gave designers and developers a toolbox for their daily needs and across a large digital ecosystem.
During my tenure on the project I was part of the founding fundamentals and logics team and a lead designer on some of the dedicated product streams where we would apply the design system to actual live (or soon to be) products and services. It was a super agile, "move fast break things" approach that was a lot of fun.
A project of this scale, complexity and ambition wouldn't be possible without a solid team of talented people. Luckily I was a part of one and I can't be more proud of working along with the best of the best.
After carefully crafting every component, the design system was packaged into an accessible and easy to use product - DSP - and was put into the hands of the 10,000+ designers and developers at Jio.
